The Clevelander

The in-game Ocean View Hotel is the Clevelander, the pink-neon Art Deco hotel on Ocean Drive in South Beach. The facade, the corner sign and the pool-bar frontage in the trailer all match a building that has stood at 1020 Ocean Drive since 1938. It is a working hotel, a bar and a landmark most people walk past without knowing what it is.

How confident are we?

Identified by trailer frame and by the building's distinctive pink neon facade, widely corroborated across the mapping community.

The Clevelander is the most widely agreed real-world match in Vice Beach, and the one piece of evidence is unusually strong: the shape and colour of the building. The Clevelander's signature is a pastel-pink Art Deco facade with a large cursive neon sign, sitting on the corner of Ocean Drive and 11th Street. That exact sign is what the trailer shows behind a Vice Beach police stop.

What to actually look at

Stand on the north side of Ocean Drive and look up. The neon sign sits on the seaward corner of the building, above a row of arched windows. Walk the block south and you pass the rest of the South Beach Art Deco strip, which is the wider landscape the game's Vice Beach is built on.

Getting there

The Clevelander is six blocks north of 1st Street and two blocks south of the Fontainebleau. South Beach is flat, hot and easy to walk, but parking is genuinely difficult on Ocean Drive itself. The practical options are a valet, a garage on 11th Street, or a rideshare drop on Collins Avenue a short walk away.

A note on photography

This is a working hotel and a popular bar. The facade and the street are public and photographable from the pavement. The interior, the pool deck and the bar are private property: be a guest, or buy a drink, before you point a camera inside.

Where it sits on our route

The Clevelander is the first stop on the Miami Vice City small-group tour, and it is also the opening move of the private convertible and Jeep routes. We start there because it is where the game's establishing shot of Vice Beach comes from, and because it is the clearest possible first frame for anyone who has seen the trailer.

Inside: the bar and the rooftop pool deck

The building itself is the point, and it has been photographed so heavily that the pink facade reads as a piece of Miami iconography. Inside, the bar and the rooftop pool deck are where the real Miami history is: the Clevelander was the beach's social centre through the 1980s revival, and the neon sign has been the same hand-painted design for decades.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Ocean View Hotel in GTA 6 the Clevelander?

Almost certainly. The Clevelander's pink Art Deco facade and rooftop neon sign appear in the trailer in the same position as the in-game hotel. It is the most widely repeated identification in the community, though no official list of real-world inspirations has ever been published.

Can you stay at the Clevelander?

Yes. It operates as a hotel, a bar and an event venue. Rooms and the rooftop pool deck are for guests; the street outside is for everyone.

Is it on the tour?

Yes. It is stop one on the Miami Vice City small-group tour and the first stop on both private routes.
